On behalf of the Governing Board of Blessed Dominic Catholic Primary School, I would like to welcome you to the website. Blessed Dominic is a voluntary-aided Catholic school serving the educational needs of the Colindale area. The role of governors is to make a positive contribution to the education of the children the school serves. In consultation with the Headteacher, we set the future direction of the school and decide how the school’s budget should be spent. Currently, the Governing Board consists of 9 members, plus one co-opted governor. We have 4 Foundation Governors, who are appointed by the Diocese of Westminster, a local authority-appointed Governor, 2 Staff Governors and 2 parent Governors, who come from a range of backgrounds and so enhance the Governing Board with a breath of skills, competences and experience. The Full Governing Board meets 4 times a year. Additionally, there are 3 committees responsible for Teaching and Learning; Children, Family and Community; and Resources. Each Governor is a member of at least one committee. The most important aspect of a Governors’ role is to act as a critical friend to the Headteacher, scrutinising and, where appropriate, challenging decisions. We decide, review and monitor the school’s policies and offer a source of support and challenge to the Headteacher and her colleagues in developing Blessed Dominic as a learning community steeped in the values of the Gospel.
