1B Trip to Aldenham Park- Thursday 10th May 2021
Meet the Year 1 Teachers!
Please watch the video below to see what your child will be doing this half term. I look forward to meeting you all.
We had such a brilliant day out in Aldenham Farm Park this week. We got to see loads of animals, our favourite was definitely the goat!! We also got to have a picnic and explore the 100 acre wood to see where Winnie the Pooh lives!
Thanks so much to the people who volunteered to come with us to make it such an excellent trip!!
Year 1 learned about the Ascension in R.E. this term. We had mass with Father Brian on Thursday to celebrate the Ascension of our Lord and reflect on it’s importance. We created our our ascension crafts to help us remember the story.
Year 1 learned all about Barcelona for Spanish day and we focused on Gaudi and his amazing work. We created our very own Gaudi suns!
This week 1B have written their lent promises. Ash Wednesday (17th February) marks the beginning of Lent. The children reflected on what they are going to do this lent to become closer to God and they asked for God’s help to guide them through this reflection period. Here are just some examples of the promises the children made.
Here are just some of the 1B children who supported Inside Out Day on Wednesday 3rd February 2021.
Year 1 have been working so hard at home for the past 3 weeks and we are so proud of all the amazing work they have been doing! We decided to do a little message for the NHS and Critical Workers who are working so hard everyday!
We are so delighted to have you all back in school. Friday home will continue to be given out on a Friday on Google Classroom to ensure the children are still in routine of using it should our bubble need to close for any reason. We will give Wednesday word homework books out as normal as well as the weekly reasers. The reading books will be accompanied by reading material on Reading Eggs every week so the children have plenty of different books to read at home.
Thank you all again for you ongoing support!
This year we will be assigning spellings to the children through Readiwriter. The children’s log-ins have been stuck into the front of their reading logs. Throughout the term there will be lists of spellings assigned to your child based on the Year 1 curriculum. These can be found under planned word lists on the children’s account. There is also a list of assigned words for anyone who wishes to do their own work at home, which cover some of the phonics and spellings rules for Year 1.
Please log in weekly and complete some work with your child.
Please find below the useful phonics resources I have discussed with you during our meetings. I will continue to add to these resources throughout the term. I hope these are of use to you.
We follow the Letters and Sounds Phonics Scheme in school. This document shows the scheme and goes through each phase your child will learn and the different things involved. At the end of the document there is also some ideas for games and activities you can do with your child.
Each week the link to the Wednesday Word leaflet will be in this section. Please have a look at it each week and discuss it with your child.
This year for World Kindness Day we made a ‘Kindness Tree’ in Year 1. We talked about all the things we could do everyday to show kindness to people. We hope that if we do one small act of kindness everyday in Year 1, our kindness will spread and we will encourage others to be kind as well. We wrote our ideas on leaves and out them on our beautiful kindness tree.
Today marked our annual Harvest Celebration. Due to the current situation we were unable to do our usual Grandparents Afternoon Tea. Instead we had a non-uniform day and brought in some food items for charities who are helping people through a difficult. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone for their extremely generous donations. We are overwhelmed by the kindness and support you have all shown!!
We also made some lovely cards for all our amazing grand-parents!
This year our MacMillan coffee morning was a little bit different but our children still raised some money for the charity and got a chance to enjoy some treats 🙂
Thanks for all the donations!!
