CLASS CONTACT EMAIL: 6d@blesseddominic.barnet.sch.uk

We are extremely proud of our school community and hope you are all engaging positively with your home learning. Please do not worry about work that is incomplete as all we want you to do is try your best. Remember our school Learning Behaviours! Please look out for explanation of concepts to help with your learning. We miss you all terribly but looking forward to seeing you back in the classroom soon.

All pieces must have a Date, LO and RAG (traffic light).

Maths

Complete the assigned tasks on Mathletics based on our weekly learning. I will use this to assess your understanding.

Complete the following Arithmetic Paper in timed conditions (30 mins): https://www.dropbox.com/s/3886ox9aat85fma/ArithmeticPaper3.pdf?dl=0

Then mark your answers by scrolling down to the answer page.

English:

LO: To compose a Thank You letter

Success Criteria:

Review your plans from yesterday’s lesson. Today your task is to write the Thank You letter to your chosen healthcare hero. You could read over some of the examples from yesterday’s lesson and magpie some phrases that you like.

Once your letter is written, use a thesaurus to up-level your writing. If you type the boring word into google, you will find more powerful synonyms for that word.

I look forward to reading these letters when we are back at school.

Spelling Test:

Ask someone in your family to test you on this week’s words. Correct any errors that you make and learn them over the weekend.

Adding suffixes beginning with vowel letters to words ending in –fer

Mindfulness Activity:

Another mindfulness activity to finish off Mental Health Awareness Week. Enjoy 🙂
Mindfulness Friday

Art:

LO: To create a family portrait

Using the step-by-step guide, you are going to draw accurate portraits of your family member/members. You can choose to draw as many as you like. Take your time – portrait artists never rush their work as they focus on every feature of the person they are drawing.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ftb70hapeprzyfm/How%20to%20draw%20a%20portrait.pdf?dl=0

Here is a video to help you as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3TikcVkFow

You can complete your portrait on to a sheet (and then stick it into your book) or draw straight into your creative learning book.

Looking forward to seeing your lovely creations. 🙂

As next week is half-term, we will not be posting lessons. If there are tasks on SPAG.com or Mathletics that you have not completed, you could catch up with these next week.

Have a wonderful half-term everyone!
Well done for continuing with your home learning – you are all amazing! 🙂

LO: To write a detailed balanced argument

Success Criteria:

Using your plans from yesterday’s lesson, you are going to write a balanced argument on the topic of Home Learning.
Your question is “Is Home Learning Better than Traditional Schooling?”

You need to write arguments for home learning and against home learning. Use the points that you wrote yesterday.
You should also include additional conjunctions (furthermore, as well as this…) and contrasting conjunctions (on the other hand, however…)

Here is an example of the introduction, paragraph 1 and paragraph 2. You should follow the structure of this example. Begin with an introduction to explain what your argument is about and then alternate each paragraph with reasons for and against. Remember you need to have the same amounts of reasons for and reasons against to make sure it is balanced.

Balanced Argument Example

Try to include all of the points that you planned yesterday.

Your final paragraph should explain your opinion on home learning.

R.E Lesson

L.O: To understand the importance of Pentecost and make links between beliefs and life.

Luke  tells us that Jesus would send the Holy Spirit to the disciples to be their support and guide (Lk 24:49) – their advocate (one who speaks on their behalf.) This happens in Acts 2:1-4 when Luke tells us the spirit came during the Jewish festival of Shavuot or Pentecost. The only account of Pentecost in the Bible is found in Acts of the Apostles and written by Luke; Matthew does not have a story of the coming of the Holy Spirit. Luke records that while the disciples were in Jerusalem for Shavuot, something unusual happened.

LO: To plan information for a balanced argument

Success Criteria:

For the last number of weeks children in England have been taking part in home learning. This week you will be writing a balanced argument outlining points in favour of home learning (for) and points against home learning. Today you need to plan your balanced argument.

Here is an example layout for your plan. Feel free to use a mind-map if you would prefer. You should also write examples of additional and contrasting conjunctions.

My Balanced Argument Plan

Use these key questions to help you with ideas ‘for’ and ‘against’ home learning:

Reasons For and Against

Challenge 1: You need to write 3 points for and 3 points against home learning
Challenge 2: You need to write 4 points for and 4 points against home learning
Challenge 3: You need to write 5 points for and 5 points against home learning

Make an effort to create a clear, detailed plan as this will make it easier to write your argument tomorrow.
