BD Pupil Parliament is Blessed Dominic’s pupil‑led leadership group, giving children from Year 1 to Year 6 a meaningful voice in shaping our school community. Rooted in our Catholic mission and inspired by Catholic Social Teaching, our representatives learn that leadership is an act of service, guided by the words of Jesus:

“Let your light shine before others.” (Matthew 5:16)

Our members champion pupil voice, strengthen community links and promote British Values across the school. Their work reflects key principles of Catholic Social Teaching, including Dignity, Solidarity, Participation, Care for Creation and Option for the Poor.

Pupil Parliament members have worked closely with our local MP, sharing ideas for improving our community and even inviting him to our International Evening to celebrate the diversity of Blessed Dominic. They have also visited the Houses of Parliament, gaining first‑hand experience of democracy in action.

A key part of their leadership was working jointly with Barnet Homes on the regeneration of Grahame Park North East. Their involvement demonstrates how children can meaningfully participate in real civic decision‑making.

Throughout the year, Pupil Parliament leads whole‑school assemblies on British Values, helping pupils understand democracy, respect, tolerance and responsibility in a child‑friendly and faith‑filled way.

Each autumn, we hold our Pupil Parliament Elections, where candidates write and deliver a short speech in class before taking part in a real ballot at our school polling station. Votes are counted, and the newly elected representatives are announced during our Friday Whole School Celebration Assembly.

BD Pupil Parliament shows our children that their ideas matter, their voices are powerful and guided by faith and Catholic Social Teaching — they can make a difference in our school and beyond.
